My 1997 Altima is about to close in on 200k. Although it leaks a bit of oil it still has plenty of power... I have done very few repairs to it. I am wondering what prevenative work I should be doing and how many miles people get out of these cars. BTW Imy car started life as a rental car which makes the reliability even more amazing.
Work I have done
- Two alternators
- Replaced front half axles twice (shredded CV boot)
- Recently replaced front strus (rear are original)
- Replaced Fuel pump
- Usual wear items (brakes, one caliper replaced)
- I think I had collants flushed once and ocassionally drain transmission fluid and replace what comes out (not full flush).
What I am thinking of doing:
- New ball joints (last time I had it alligned I was surprised that the shop thought that they were fine).
- Flush collants?
- Transmission flush, filter?
- Rear struts?
What else should I be considering? Is there anything drastic that could break that I should be doing preventive maintance on?
I know that one of the leak points is near the main pulley which is where I suspect that I am leakign oil. Do I need to pull the engine to fix?
Thanks, Craig
