Hello, I am posting this issue with my 97 maxima in general chat because I believe the issue is not really restricted to an particular make or model. So anyways, my speedometer is messed up. After trying some things to no avail I took it in for a diag. and it was confirmed that the instrument cluster (aka speedohead I believe) is bad. Probably something with the circuit board. They offered to send it in, have it fixed and re-install it for around $400, and naturally I'm looking for a way to just do this myself. I am aware that there are aftermarket clusters around for about $100. I know I can replace the cluster myself, as I have removed it before. Now, you can probably guess the issue I face at that point-- the odometer. I always thought that sense cars are so computerized, you could just plug in the new cluster and the computer had the info stored and would adjust it. It would be easy, and protect against fraud. Seems logical, right? But it's come to my attention that this is not the case. I am just wondering the best way to go about adjusting the new odometer so that it matches my old one, and displays the true miles of the car. Thankyou
