98 Pathfinder Stalls when cold, smoky

My 98 Pathfinder occasionally stalls when starting it up cold.

Then, when I restart it, a big plume of smoke comes out.

I checked it with my error code scanner, but no code is pending.

Any ideas of what this could be?
