As reported in CNNMoney, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and Mazda have announced a recall of approximately 3.4 million cars due to Airbag defects. Toyota said it was recalling 1.7 million cars worldwide including some popular models like Corolla, Matrix, and Camry. Honda said it was recalling 1.1 million vehicles, Nissan is recalling 480,000 but did not mention any models, and Mazda 45,000 cars.
The vehicles were supposedly produced in 2001, 2002, and 2003 models. The issue is the passenger airbag that may deploy with too much pressure that can rupture the inflator casing and could result in injuries. All of the airbags were produced by Takata Corp. of Japan. Toyota said it is aware of five malfunctions but no injuries were reported. Honda said it is aware of one crash where the airbag deployed and the inflator casing ruptured but is not aware of any injuries reported.
