So I just purchased my friend's 02 Xterra, I think its the XE??, 5 spd transmisson 3.3L. Everything on it runs great, shifts great, no weird noises or anything. He kept up with REALLY well, only about 130k miles. Anyways I've only had it for a week and i've never owned an xterra or any nissan for that matter before, but the one thing I noticed thats weird is that after drivin around the city for a while (shifting quite often) the floorboard right around the gas pedal and the bottom of the center console around the stick get pretty HOT. Its not anything to do with the heater/AC system because its not hot air thats blowing anywhere (and when I do turn on the floorboard AC it cools off and feels fine) but rather it feels like the floorboard itself is just REALLY heating up and I have no clue why. I've crawled under and looked all around the tranny/clutch/downpipes for the exhaust. Everything seems fine and the heat shields are actually all in pretty good shape. My only thoughts are that there is another heatshield right around the stick that isn't there and is supposed to be?? Or there's also what I think is an ECU sitting behind the center console in the floorboard that gets pretty hot for some reason and its the cause but I don't think it would cause as much heat as I'm feeling. Any thoughts? Am i just being overly paranoid and all xterras that are this old are like that? Any insight would be helpful. Thanks everyone!
